WHAT IS PILATES AND HOW MIGHT IT BENEFIT ME?
The Pilates Method is a system of exercises using specific apparatus designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture, and enhance mental awareness. Pilates is designed for a broad range of people from elite athletes to office workers, pregnant women and everyone in between.
WHAT IS STUDIO PILATES?
Studio Pilates classes are limited to 4 participants per instructor. Each participant is guided through an individualised programme based on their goals/needs. Our studio is comprehensively equipped with both traditional and modern Pilates equipment. This includes reformers, trapeze table (cadilac), ladder barrel, chair and other small apparatus to assist the workout.
HOW DOES PILATES AT MELBOURNE OSTEOPATHY SPORTS INJURY CENTRE DIFFER FROM OTHER STUDIOS?
Our instructors have undergone extensive training and continue to build on their knowledge through professional development each year. Each client’s program is designed specifically for their needs and will continue to evolve as their needs and goals change. Although each class will be different, clients will continually work toward these goals under the direct supervision of our experienced instructors.
I HAVE A SORE BACK, WILL PILATES BE SUITABLE FOR ME?
Yes. Pilates is a great way to rehabilitate from injury. Studio classes (as opposed to group mat classes) are more appropriate for clients with injuries as their programme will be individualised based on their specific complaint. Clients will be instructed on the correct techniques throughout the classes. All new clients are required to undertake an Initial Consultation which will allow the instructor to develop a specific program tailored to your needs.
DO YOU OFFER PILATES FOR PREGNANCY?
All of our instructors have experience working with prenatal and postnatal clients, however, we don’t offer classes specifically for pregnancy. Our studio classes are individualised and we cater to your requirements through each stage of pregnancy.
I’M NEW TO PILATES, WHERE DO I START?
- The first step is to book your Initial Consultation where a Pilates instructor from the clinic will sit down with you and discuss any current injuries, history of injuries, illnesses, previous exercise experience, as well as your personal goals. They will also complete a postural assessment and Pilates assessment.
- You will then be introduced to a few basic exercises and the concepts of Pilates in order to gain better understanding of how it will help you to achieve your goals.
- The instructor will discuss a plan for you and then determine whether you are ready to join a studio class or continue with 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 sessions.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR PILATES?
We recommend that you wear comfortable exercise clothes that are fairly fitted but will allow you to move freely. You can wear Pilates grip socks or regular socks. You will not need shoes. We have change rooms and toilets available at our centre.
WHAT TYPES OF CLASSES DO YOU OFFER AT MELBOURNE OSTEOPATHY SPORTS INJURY CENTRE?
We offer private classes (1 client with 1 instructor), semi-private classes (2 clients with 1 instructor) and small group classes (4 clients with 1 instructor). Our classes run from 7am – 8pm Monday to Friday. For detailed class times, please see our Pilates timetable.
A FRIEND AND I WOULD LIKE TO DO PILATES TOGETHER, IS THIS POSSIBLE?
Yes. We offer semi private classes (2 clients with 1 instructor). These classes are also suitable for clients who require a little more attention or are recovering from a recent injury.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRIVATE CLASSES OVER STUDIO CLASSES?
In a private class the instructor is able to focus their full attention on assessing your technique and developing suitable exercises. Private classes will help you to establish the correct techniques and movement patterns and prepare you to move in to small group classes.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR CORPORATE GROUPS?
Yes we offer both in-house and onsite group mat classes. These are suitable for groups from 8-30 people and can cater for either beginners or more experienced Pilates clients. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STUDIO PILATES AND MAT PILATES?
Studio Pilates classes are limited to 4 participants at a time and everyone is engaged in their own unique program. Mat classes are larger group classes where participants use the floor as well as small props. All participants perform the same exercises with small modifications based on personal capabilities.
